Aki Kotkas
Born in 1974. Graduated in 2003 as Designer from University of Art and Design Helsinki. During my studies I have been concentrating on finding new ways of using recycled materials. The motivation for the material choice comes from ecological-ideological thinking.
I make art, as well as, functional objects with recycled materials. This kind of material choice is a comment to our consuming culture and short life-span objects. The most important values for me relate to higher quality and durability - which, as far as I can see, will create a more sustainable future. I started to work with Secco in 2003 when the production of LP products started. At the moment I am working on products made from washing machine drums, to be produced by Secco.
